During its rural years, Fern Creek
was known as Stringtown, due to it being strung -out along the Louisville-Bardstown Pike. While it was rural for many years, the arrival of nearby GE's Appliance Park
resulted in significant growth for the community. Another reason for the growth of Fern Creek came way in 1987 when the Gene Snyder freeway reached completion, as a result, shopping centers, businesses and Fern Creek real estate began sprouting rapidly.
Fern Creek is known in the city of Louisville for offering a variety of recently developed communities. Examples of these new neighborhoods include Windgate Meadows, Oakland Hills, Little Spring Farm and Cedar Meadow. These subdivisions and neighborhoods have been developed within the last several years and are still in the process of building new real estate.
