The city of Indian Hills is located in St. Matthews in Louisville, Kentucky. This community originally began as Indian Hills Farm in the early 1800’s; the farm spanned over 500 acres located just seven miles from what is now Downtown Louisville. Indian Hills, which features about 1,200 homes, was incorporated as a fourth-class city in 1999 when they cities of Cherokee, Indian Hills-Country Club, Robinswood and Winding Falls merged into one city. The subdivisions follow the curvature of the hilly terrain, with most homes found on large lots with long driveways and spacious green front lawns. The developers maintained the natural landscaping of the area with tall, mature Sycamore and Maple trees. Indian Hills provides a pleasant drive through park like settings with its curved streets and circular intersections, noting several green open areas left available for community gatherings such as the Annual Independence Day Parade, or the Annual October Fest.

These elevated neighborhoods offer a wide range of housing designs, ages, and values. From the two and three story brick houses to the 5,000 + square foot-estate sized-million dollar homes. Indian Hills offers many options for the affluent homebuyer. The median price for a home in Indian Hills is about $415,000 and the average price per square foot is $190. These beautiful homes were mostly built in the 1950’s and 60’s in the Traditional style mainly, although Cape Cod and Ranch styles are predominant as well.

A popular attraction located just outside Indian Hills is historic Locust Grove, a magnificent Georgian mansion that was built in 1790. The mansion has been restored to its original appearance and offers tours and a chance to learn about the settlement of Kentucky and George Rogers Clark, the founder of the city of Louisville. St. Matthews has some of the best locally owned restaurants in the city; some examples include Café Fraiche, Clover Lane, Del Frisco’s, and Havana Rumba. Schools in close proximity to Indian Hills are Chenoweth Elementary, Northaven Elementary, Trinity High School, and Holy Spirit School.
