The town of Jeffersontown, Kentucky was founded by a man named Abraham Bruner in 1797. Bruner named the town after Thomas Jefferson, but for many years the occupants referred to the town as “Brunerstown”. In the early to mid-1900’s Jeffersontown did not attract very many inhabitants, that is, until the 1950’s. At this time the General Electric Appliance Park opened its doors, bringing a flood of new arrivals to the area. This influx of new citizens brought many improvements and renovations such as new roads and expressways, which made traveling around the city of Louisville much easier. About ten years later, in 1966, the Bluegrass Research and Industrial Park was developed. The park was one of a kind, with a unique and relaxed park setting. Today Bluegrass Research and Industrial Park is the largest in Kentucky making Jeffersontown, Kentucky the third largest city for employment in the state.
Currently the city of Jeffersontown is booming. There are so many restaurants, shops, grocery stores, hotels and businesses around every corner it is hard to keep track.
