The town of Lyndon was originally a train depot built by a man named Alvin Wood in 1871. He built this depot so he and his neighbors wouldn’t have to travel to St. Matthew to catch the train; this depot was built where Vinecrest Avenue is today. Lyndon is a neighborhood that contains apartment complexes, subdivisions, shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
The Lyndon community has a wide range of homes from $80,000 into the millions. In 2010 the median home price in this area is roughly $131,500 and the average price per square foot is about $85. Many of the homes in Lyndon were built in the 1950’s and 60’s, but new construction homes have been built over the decades and are available in Lyndon today. In this community there are many different styles of home, the most popular is Ranch and Traditional with some Cape Cod and Bi-level styles scattered throughout the area.
Lyndon offers attractions and entertainment for the whole family. Lyndon Recreation is located in A.B. Sawyer Park and offers programs for children and adults such as tee ball, baseball and softball leagues. Lyndon is also home to the new Westport Village outdoor shopping center which offers many specialty stores and boutiques, as well as some of Louisville’s best restaurants. Some of these restaurants include Boombozz Pizzeria and Taphouse, Hiko-A-Mon Sushi Bar and Fish Market, Napa River Grill, and Wild Eggs. Schools in the neighborhood are Bowen Elementary, Westport Alternative High School, Triple Crown Academy, St. Mary Academy and Maryhurst Alternative School.
